Split PDF is a free, browser-based tool for breaking a PDF apart. Select the pages you want — by clicking them or typing a range like "1-3, 5" — then keep them as one new PDF, separate files, or a ZIP. It runs on your device, so the file is never uploaded.
Most people reach for a PDF splitter for one of two reasons: they need a few specific pages out of a long document — a signed page, one chapter, a single form — or they need to break one big file into separate pieces to send or file individually. Both are fiddly to do by hand, and re-printing or screenshotting loses quality.
This tool handles both jobs from one screen. Load a PDF and every page appears as a thumbnail you can click to select. Need a clean range? Type it into the Custom Range box — for example 1-3, 5 grabs pages one through three plus page five — and apply it. A running count shows how many pages you've selected, so you always know what's going into the result.
Then you choose how to save. Merge Selected to Single PDF keeps your chosen pages together as one new document — that's the "extract pages" job. Individual Files or Download as ZIP gives you each selected page as its own PDF, which is the classic "split into separate files" outcome. Your original file is never altered; the tool only creates new files from what you select.
Everything happens inside your browser, so the PDF stays on your device and isn't uploaded to a server. That's worth noting because many splitter sites send your document to the cloud — not ideal for contracts, statements, or records. The pages are copied as-is, so there's no quality loss and no watermark, and there's no cap on how many pages a document can have.

Realistic example. You have a 20-page report and need pages 4–6 as one file to email. Type "4-6" in Custom Range, apply it, leave the mode on Merge Selected to Single PDF, and click Split PDF Now — you get a clean three-page PDF.
Advanced tip. To turn a whole document into one PDF per page, click Select All and choose Download as ZIP — every page comes back as its own file in a single archive.
Common mistake to avoid. If you only need a few pages as one document, don't use Individual Files — that gives you separate downloads. Use Merge Selected to Single PDF instead.
Recommendation. Need the pages in a different order, or want to recombine later? Split first, then use Merge PDF or Rearrange Pages.

Use page numbers and ranges separated by commas — for example, "1-3, 5" selects pages one, two, three, and five. A single number like "7" selects just that page. After typing it, click Apply Range and the matching pages are selected in the grid, with the count shown in the summary.
Merge Selected to Single PDF combines your chosen pages into one new file. Download as ZIP saves each selected page as its own PDF, bundled in one archive. Individual Files downloads each selected page separately. Pick Merge when you want one document, and ZIP or Individual when you want the pages as separate files.
Extracting means pulling out specific pages into a new file while the original stays intact — that's the Merge Selected mode here. Splitting usually means breaking a document into separate pieces, which is the ZIP or Individual Files mode. This tool does both, so you choose based on whether you want one file or many.
No. The tool only reads your file and creates new ones from the pages you select — it never edits or removes anything from the original. Your source PDF stays exactly as it was on your device. If a result isn't what you wanted, just reselect pages and split again.
